Default Two PvE Necro builds - tear them apart

n/r

beast - 8
death - 10+1
SR - 12+1+3

death nova - 5e
edge of extinction - 5e
animate bone minions/horror - 25e/15e
taste of death - 5e
call of protection/res signet - 5e
virulence/ferocious strike {e} - 5e (net 2 gain on ferocious)
symbiotic bond - 10e
charm animal - n/a

n/e

12 - air
9+1+1 - blood
9+3 - SR

thunderclap {e}
life siphon
blood renewal
vampiric gaze
conjure lightning
lightning strike
death pact
res sig

Okay, the first build I am a lot more happy with. It's basically a nuker that uses corpses to maximum effect. Ferocious strike and Virulence are there, because I don't know what else to put there. The virulence would be easy, with the poison from death nova. I figure with 16 in soul reaping, you'd be gaining energy from making minions, giving them the nova, and then tasting them to death. I could drop out charm and symbiotic bond for verata's aura, and verata's gaze in areas that have plenty of enemy undead. I could also use putrid explosion, or well of suffering when there's just too many corpses. The proper elite for this build still eludes me, however.

The second one.. my goal was to make some real use of Thunderclap with soul reaping, but something tells me there are better ways to do this. Perhaps a e/r with 12 air, BM, ES, and Ferocious strike, or Ether Prodigy?

Feel free to tear these builds apart, any suggestions would be great.

Yes, there are far better thunderclap builds, but none of them really work so well anyhow.

Build #1 is interesting, but I don't know. Pets are good. Minions are decent. But together? I just don't know. I'd put in a pet-hp gainer and become a battery nec with blood ritual and well of power, or tick on a few softening curses like rend or weaken armor to do double-duty that way, but I just don't see the minions AND the pet.

For another, more dedicated minion master, though, I think that eoe+death nova is a nice idea. But I think you either have to drop the pet or the minions to make build 1 work

The pet won't really have that high of AL at 8 beast anyway.. it'd get whacked on a lot and just be a pain.. I looked at my build again a little later, and realized I don't really have a way to produce the first corpse. Enter Deathly Swarm and Deathly Chill.. and I can also squeeze in Rotting Flesh and Infuse Condition. Or I could take out one of those.. probably Infuse, since conditions won't matter much spamming Taste of Death.. and put a few points in wilderness, along with a poisoner's bow string for 8 degen on everything.

It might look something like this:

N/R

11+3+1 SR
11+1 Death
8 Beast Mastery
3 Wilderness Survival

Apply Poison/Infuse Conditions
Rotting Flesh
Deathly Swarm
Deathly Chill
Taste of Death
Animate X
Death Nova
Edge of Extinction

Forget the elite, I guess. In SF/GF, I'd carry Verata's Gaze and Aura in place of Deathly Chill and Rotting Flesh.. and I'd trash Apply Poison for Infuse. This sounds like fun. Of course, the stupid warriors will probably be like, "Wow, we have a [email protected] ele! How much fire do you have?!" "15, man. Hardcore."

Here is a Necro/Ranger build I was playing around with that is similar to your first build, minus the pet. It is meant for random arena, spreads disease and poison, and boosts your party's hp with symbiosis.

N/R

16 Death
9 BM
10 SR

Tainted Flesh (Elite)
Animate Minions
EoE
Symbiosis
Death Nova
Taste of Death
Consume Corpse/Well of Suffering/Deathly Swarm
Res Sig

Keep tainted and death nova on your team. With symbiosis up you have more hp to withstand the EoE damage, and you have constant disease on the enemy team, plus poison once people start hitting the ground. Death nova and/or tainted flesh your minions and taste of death them to spread lots of degen. Fun build, especially when people wipe from EoE.

Thanks a lot for the reply, cpu, that's a good idea too. I hadn't considered the fact that tainted flesh and death nova are enchants.. Good thinking.

Well I have experience with both a N/R and N/E. I started with N/R but for the bow purposes but found I had little energy. Then I tried a pet and this I didn't find appeasing so I changed second proffesion and now I'm and N/E. What I have now is a blood/echo character which I dont feel is bad but I think it needs improvement. What are alternative suggestions to this that DOES NOT include fire magic because I do not like to be the same as everyone else. I use vampire gaze, life siphon, demonic flesh, well of blood, offering of blood, aftershock, earthquake, and ward against melee. Can anyone improve the build given here?

That's something that you should really make a new topic for.. not reply here. Make a new one, and I'd be glad to help you some.
